El dictamen. La verdad interior. Cerdos y peces. Fortuna. Es propicio cruzar las grandes aguas. Es propicia la perseverancia.

La imagen. El viento sobre el lago: la imagen de la verdad interior. Así el noble revisa los procesos y demora las ejecuciones.

Mirá la figura: cuatro líneas firmes afuera y dos blandas justo en el medio. El corazón del hexagrama está vacío. En la tradición china esa es la condición de la sinceridad: adentro no hay nada duro que defender, y por eso lo que entra se recibe y lo que sale sale limpio. El nombre lo dice, zhōng fú, la confianza del centro; el carácter fú muestra una garra sobre una cría, la gallina empollando el huevo, un calor sostenido que hace nacer algo sin apurarlo.

Arriba está el viento y abajo el lago. El viento mueve la superficie del lago porque el lago se deja mover: no hay influencia sin alguien que se abra. Es el mismo mecanismo que el hexagrama pide entre dos personas.

La frase más rara del Dictamen es la más importante: "cerdos y peces". Son los animales que en la tradición se consideran los menos alcanzables, los que no razonan ni responden a la palabra. Si tu sinceridad llega hasta ellos, llega a cualquiera. Y por eso la Imagen manda revisar los juicios y demorar las condenas: el que quiere entender de verdad se toma el tiempo antes de sentenciar.

The Judgment. Inner Truth. Pigs and fishes. Good fortune. It is favourable to cross the great water. Perseverance is favourable.

The Image. Wind above the lake: the image of Inner Truth. Thus the noble one reviews cases at trial and delays executions.

Look at the figure: four firm lines on the outside and two yielding ones right in the middle. The heart of the hexagram is empty. In the Chinese tradition that is the condition of sincerity: inside there is nothing hard to defend, so what arrives is received and what leaves comes out clean. The name says it, zhong fu, confidence at the centre; the character fu shows a claw over a nestling, the hen brooding the egg, a sustained warmth that brings something to birth without hurrying it.

Wind sits above and lake below. The wind moves the surface of the lake because the lake lets itself be moved: there is no influence without someone who opens. That is the same mechanism the hexagram asks for between two people.

The strangest phrase in the Judgment is the most important one: "pigs and fishes". They are the animals the tradition holds to be the least reachable, the ones that neither reason nor answer to speech. If your sincerity reaches them, it reaches anyone. And that is why the Image orders reviewing trials and delaying executions: whoever truly wants to understand takes time before passing sentence.

Sacaste el 61 y la pregunta suele ser una de estas dos: puedo confiar en esta persona, o me van a creer a mí. A veces es la tercera, que es la más difícil: qué es lo que realmente siento debajo de todo lo que me digo.

El hexagrama responde con un desplazamiento. No te habla de la otra persona ni de tu estrategia: te pide vaciar el centro, ir sin agenda, decir lo que es cierto y dejar que actúe solo. La influencia del 61 no se consigue, se emite. Es la línea 2: la grulla llama desde la sombra, donde nadie la ve, y su cría le responde igual.

El error típico está en los dos extremos habituales. El primero es querer convencer: juntar pruebas, ensayar el argumento, preparar la respuesta a cada objeción. Cuando entrás así, el otro no escucha lo que decís, escucha que lo estás empujando, y se cierra. El segundo es blindarte: no contar nada, adelantarte a la traición, mantener a todos a distancia prudente. Con esa armadura nadie te puede mentir, y tampoco puede pasar nada.

El tercer camino es incómodo por lo simple: sé confiable primero, y decilo sin defensa. Contá lo que te pasa sin agregarle el pedido de que reaccionen bien. Escuchá lo que el otro dice sin estar armando la respuesta. Si el vínculo tiene fondo, eso lo abre; si no lo tiene, lo vas a saber esta semana en vez del año que viene.

Y la advertencia de la línea 6: convicción sin sustancia es puro ruido. Cantar fuerte no es tener razón. Si querés una prueba concreta esta semana, poné una sola cosa cierta sobre la mesa, sin adorno y sin pedirle nada a nadie, y mirá qué vuelve.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 61 suele aparecer cuando:

• Tenés que decir algo verdadero y no sabés si te van a creer.
• Dudás de alguien y no tenés pruebas, solo una sensación.
• Estás negociando o mediando y las palabras suenan huecas.
• Querés saber qué sentís de verdad, debajo de lo que te venís contando.

You drew 61 and the question is usually one of two: can I trust this person, or will they believe me. Sometimes it is the third and hardest one: what do I actually feel underneath everything I keep telling myself.

The hexagram answers with a shift. It does not talk about the other person or about your strategy: it asks you to empty the centre, go in without an agenda, say what is true and let it work on its own. The influence of 61 is not obtained, it is emitted. That is line 2: the crane calls from the shade, where nobody can see it, and its young answers anyway.

The typical mistake sits at the two usual extremes. The first is wanting to convince: gathering evidence, rehearsing the argument, preparing an answer to every objection. When you come in like that, the other person does not hear what you say, they hear that you are pushing, and they close. The second is armouring up: telling nobody anything, pre-empting the betrayal, keeping everyone at a prudent distance. Inside that armour nobody can lie to you, and nothing can happen either.

The third way is uncomfortable because it is simple: be trustworthy first, and say it without a defence. Tell what is going on for you without attaching a demand that they react well. Listen to the other person without assembling your reply. If the bond has depth, that opens it; if it does not, you will find out this week instead of next year.

And the warning of line 6: conviction without substance is just noise. Crowing loudly is not being right.

In practice, hexagram 61 tends to come up when:

• You have to say something true and you do not know whether you will be believed.
• You doubt someone and you have no proof, only a feeling.
• You are negotiating or mediating and the words are ringing hollow.
• You want to know what you actually feel, underneath the story you keep telling yourself.

   Estar preparado trae fortuna. Si hay intenciones ocultas, hay inquietud.Being prepared brings good fortune. If there are hidden designs, there is disquiet.

   Antes de abrirte con alguien, mirá con qué vas. Si vas limpio, la conversación va a salir bien aunque sea difícil. Si vas con un segundo objetivo escondido, aunque sea uno chiquito, algo te va a delatar y vos mismo vas a estar incómodo todo el rato. La línea no juzga la intención: te avisa que la sinceridad a medias produce inquietud, y que se nota.

   Before opening up with someone, look at what you are carrying in. If you go in clean, the conversation will go well even if it is hard. If you go in with a second hidden aim, even a small one, something will give you away and you yourself will be uneasy the whole time. The line does not judge the intention: it warns you that half sincerity produces disquiet, and that it shows.

   La imagen más bella del libro y una de las más útiles. Lo que decís de verdad tiene efecto aunque nadie te vea decirlo: no hace falta escenario, ni público, ni el momento perfecto. Alguien va a responder porque reconoce el tono, no el argumento. En lo cotidiano es el mensaje honesto mandado sin expectativa, la ayuda ofrecida sin anuncio, el brindis compartido con quien corresponde.

   The most beautiful image in the book and one of the most useful. What you truly say has effect even if nobody sees you say it: no stage is needed, no audience, no perfect moment. Someone will answer because they recognise the tone, not the argument. In everyday life it is the honest message sent with no expectation, the help offered without announcement, the drink shared with the right person.

   Tu estado de ánimo depende enteramente del otro. Contesta y estás bien, no contesta y se te cae el día. La línea no lo condena, lo describe con precisión para que lo veas: eso no es intimidad, es dependencia, y agota a los dos. Si estás acá, el trabajo no es alejarte sino recuperar un centro propio, algo que siga en pie los días en que el otro está lejos.

   Your mood depends entirely on the other person. They reply and you are fine, they do not and the day collapses. The line does not condemn it, it describes it precisely so that you can see it: that is not intimacy, it is dependence, and it exhausts both of you. If you are here, the work is not to pull away but to recover a centre of your own, something that stands on the days the other person is far.

   Casi llena, no llena: la línea elogia justamente que no busques el brillo máximo. Y el caballo que deja a su compañero de yugo es el que suelta una alianza vieja para servir a algo más importante. En concreto: dejar de consultarle todo a la misma persona, salir de una dupla que se volvió costumbre, elegir la tarea antes que la lealtad automática. El texto dice que no hay culpa en eso.

   Nearly full, not full: the line praises exactly the fact that you are not chasing maximum brightness. And the horse that leaves its yoke partner is the one letting go of an old alliance in order to serve something more important. Concretely: no longer running everything past the same person, stepping out of a pairing that became a habit, choosing the task over automatic loyalty. The text says there is no fault in that.

   La línea del lugar del gobernante. Acá tu sinceridad ya no es un asunto privado: sostiene a un grupo entero. Es la persona a la que todos le creen y que por eso mantiene unida a una familia, un equipo, una sociedad. No lo logra hablando bien; lo logra siendo la misma en todas las conversaciones. Si te salió esta línea, cuidá esa consistencia, porque es lo único que se rompe de un solo golpe.

   The line of the ruler place. Here your sincerity is no longer a private matter: it holds a whole group up. It is the person everyone believes, and who for that reason keeps a family, a team or a partnership together. They do not achieve it by speaking well; they achieve it by being the same person in every conversation. If you drew this line, guard that consistency, because it is the one thing that breaks in a single blow.

   The cock crows loudly, but it does not fly. The line portrays whoever has conviction and nothing to back it: the fiery speech with no work behind it, the big promise made in public, the faith in your own rightness that no longer listens to anyone. It sounds good for a while and then it is exposed. If you are here, lower the volume and do something small and concrete; words with no substance wear out very fast.
