La imagen. El trueno y el relámpago llegan juntos: la imagen de la abundancia. Así el noble resuelve los litigios y ejecuta las penas.

Abajo el fuego (Li, la claridad) y arriba el trueno (Zhen, el movimiento): luz y fuerza actuando al mismo tiempo. Es la tormenta de verano, con el relámpago que ilumina todo de golpe y el trueno que sacude. El hexagrama describe el punto máximo de un ciclo, la hora en que todo está en su mayor tamaño.

La imagen central del Dictamen es el sol al mediodía, y la tradición la usa con una honestidad que sorprende. El mediodía es el instante de máxima luz y también el instante en que el sol empieza a bajar; la luna llena empieza a menguar apenas se completa. Por eso el texto dice literalmente que no hay que entristecerse: quien está en la cima suele estropear su propia hora pensando en el declive que viene.

La Imagen prescribe resolver litigios y ejecutar las penas, que a primera vista parece un salto raro. No lo es. La claridad y la fuerza juntas son exactamente lo que hace falta para juzgar bien: ver el caso completo y poder aplicar la decisión. Los momentos de plenitud son los únicos en los que se pueden ordenar los asuntos difíciles, porque hay luz para ver y energía para ejecutar. Después ya no.

The Judgment. Abundance has success. The king attains it. Do not grow sad: be like the sun at midday.

The Image. Thunder and lightning arrive together: the image of Abundance. Thus the noble settles disputes and carries out sentences.

Fire below (Li, clarity) and thunder above (Zhen, movement): light and force acting at once. It is the summer storm, lightning illuminating everything in an instant and thunder shaking the ground. The hexagram describes the maximum point of a cycle, the hour when everything is at its largest.

The central image of the Judgment is the sun at midday, and tradition uses it with surprising honesty. Noon is the moment of greatest light and also the moment the sun begins to descend; the full moon begins to wane the instant it is complete. That is why the text says plainly that you should not grow sad: whoever is at the peak usually spoils their own hour by thinking about the decline to come.

The Image prescribes settling disputes and carrying out sentences, which at first looks like an odd jump. It is not. Clarity and force together are exactly what good judgement requires: seeing the whole case and being able to apply the decision. Times of fullness are the only ones in which difficult matters can be put in order, because there is light to see and energy to act. Afterwards there is not.

La Imagen habla de resolver litigios porque este es el único momento del ciclo en que tenés a la vez claridad para ver y fuerza para ejecutar. Lo que no resuelvas al mediodía se resuelve mucho peor de tarde.

El error típico son dos maneras de desperdiciar el mediodía. Una es la melancolía anticipada: estar en la cima y no disfrutarla porque ya estás calculando cuándo se termina. El texto la nombra directo, no te entristezcas, y es raro que el I Ching hable así de frontal. La otra es lo contrario y aparece en la línea 6: encerrarse en la propia abundancia, agrandar la casa, blindarla, y quedarse tres años sin ver a nadie.

El tercer camino del 55 es tratar la plenitud como una jornada de trabajo y no como un trofeo: usar la luz mientras dura. Contratá, resolvé, pagá deudas, cerrá el conflicto, escribí el acuerdo, decidí lo que estaba pendiente, y compartilo, porque las líneas 1, 2 y 4 hablan todas de encontrarse con alguien de la misma altura. La plenitud que se reparte dura más que la que se guarda, y cuando el sol baje vas a estar del otro lado con las cosas en orden.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 55 suele aparecer cuando:

• Estás en tu mejor momento y en vez de disfrutarlo pensás en cuánto va a durar.
• Tenés recursos y claridad al mismo tiempo, algo que no pasa seguido.
• Hay un conflicto pendiente que ahora podrías resolver y estás dejando pasar la oportunidad.
• Te va bien y notás que te estás aislando de la gente que te acompañó.

You drew 55 and you are in a good moment, or about to enter one. Work that pays off, recognition, money, a relationship at its best, health, energy. The hexagram confirms it without reservation and then does something almost no advice does: it warns you that this hour comes with a task.

The abundance of 55 is not a prize to contemplate, it is working light. While the sun is overhead everything is visible: the problems in the team, the conversation you kept postponing, the mess in the accounts, what has to be closed and what has to be decided. The Image speaks of settling disputes because this is the only moment in the cycle when you have both the clarity to see and the force to act. Whatever you do not resolve at noon gets resolved far worse in the afternoon.

The typical mistake is two ways of wasting midday. One is anticipated melancholy: being at the peak and not enjoying it because you are already calculating when it ends. The text names it outright, do not grow sad, and it is rare for the I Ching to be that direct. The other is the opposite and appears in line 6: sealing yourself inside your own abundance, enlarging the house, armouring it, and spending three years seeing nobody.

The third way of 55 is to treat fullness as a working day and not as a trophy: use the light while it lasts. Hire, resolve, pay debts, close the conflict, write the agreement, decide what was pending, and share it, because lines 1, 2 and 4 all speak of meeting someone of the same stature. Abundance that is distributed lasts longer than abundance that is stored, and when the sun goes down you will be on the other side with your affairs in order.

In practice, hexagram 55 tends to come up when:

• You are at your best moment and instead of enjoying it you are wondering how long it lasts.
• You have resources and clarity at the same time, which does not happen often.
• There is a pending conflict you could settle now and you are letting the chance slip.
• Things are going well and you notice you are isolating yourself from the people who came with you.

   Al encontrarse con el señor que le corresponde pueden estar juntos diez días sin falta; ir adelante trae reconocimiento.On meeting the ruler who matches him, they may be together ten days without fault; going forward brings recognition.

   La primera línea describe un encuentro entre dos personas de la misma medida: un socio, un maestro, alguien que trabaja al nivel al que vos querés trabajar. El texto aclara que estar diez días juntos no es exceso, o sea, que en este caso la intensidad no está mal. Aprovechá el encuentro entero: preguntá, mostrá lo que hacés, proponé algo concreto. La abundancia empieza casi siempre por acá, por la persona que aparece cuando estás listo para trabajar en serio.

   The first line describes a meeting between two people of the same measure: a partner, a teacher, someone working at the level you want to work at. The text clarifies that ten days together is not excess, meaning that in this case intensity is not a fault. Use the whole encounter: ask, show what you do, propose something concrete. Abundance almost always starts here, with the person who turns up when you are ready to work seriously.

2. LíneaLine 2 — Las estrellas al mediodíaStars at noon

   La cortina es tan espesa que a mediodía se ven las estrellas del norte. Salir despierta desconfianza y odio; si se despierta al otro con verdad, llega la ventura.The screen is so thick that the polestars are seen at noon. Going out awakens mistrust and hate; if the other is roused with truth, good fortune comes.

   Hay tanto ruido, tanta intriga o tanta desinformación que en pleno día no se ve nada. Es la línea de la organización enrarecida: rumores, celos, un jefe mal aconsejado. El consejo clásico es preciso: no salgas a pelear ni a defenderte, porque eso alimenta la desconfianza. Lo que destraba es la sinceridad sostenida, hacer bien tu trabajo y decir la verdad sin subir el tono. Tarda más y funciona. Con esta línea, la paciencia es una estrategia y no una resignación.

   There is so much noise, intrigue or misinformation that nothing is visible in broad daylight. This is the line of the poisoned organisation: rumours, jealousy, a badly advised boss. The classical advice is precise: do not go out to fight or defend yourself, because that feeds the mistrust. What clears it is sustained sincerity, doing your work well and telling the truth without raising your voice. It takes longer and it works. With this line, patience is a strategy and not resignation.

3. LíneaLine 3 — El brazo derecho quebradoThe broken right arm

   La maleza es tan densa que a mediodía se ven las estrellas pequeñas. Se quiebra el brazo derecho. No hay culpa.The undergrowth is so dense that the small stars are seen at noon. The right arm is broken. There is no fault.

   La oscuridad es todavía mayor y encima perdés a la persona con la que hacías todo: el brazo derecho es el socio, el jefe que te bancaba, el compañero que se fue. El texto dice que no hay culpa, que es su manera de decir que no fue por algo que hiciste mal. Igual quedás sin poder ejecutar. Lo que corresponde acá es aceptar la limitación por un tiempo y no forzar proyectos grandes con un brazo menos. Reconstruir el equipo es la tarea, no el resultado.

   The darkness is deeper still and on top of that you lose the person you did everything with: the right arm is the partner, the boss who backed you, the colleague who left. The text says there is no fault, which is its way of saying it did not happen through anything you did wrong. You are still left unable to execute. What is called for here is accepting the limitation for a while and not forcing big projects with one arm fewer. Rebuilding the team is the task, not the result.

   La misma oscuridad de antes, pero ahora aparece alguien. Es la línea del aliado que llega en el peor momento y cambia todo, no porque resuelva el problema sino porque deja de ser un problema tuyo solo. En lo cotidiano: encontrás a la persona que entiende el proyecto, al colega que también ve lo que vos ves, al amigo que te saca del pozo. Si te salió la cuarta, buscá activamente a esa persona. En la penumbra, dos que ven igual valen más que cualquier plan.

   The same darkness as before, but now someone appears. This is the line of the ally who arrives at the worst moment and changes everything, not because they solve the problem but because it stops being yours alone. In daily life: you find the person who understands the project, the colleague who also sees what you see, the friend who pulls you out of the hole. If you drew the fourth line, go and look for that person. In the half-light, two who see alike are worth more than any plan.

   Llegan las líneas: se acercan la bendición y la fama. Ventura.Lines arrive: blessing and renown draw near. Good fortune.

   La quinta es la línea del gobernante que sabe rodearse. Llegan las líneas quiere decir que llegan las personas con talento y con consejo, y que él las escucha. No hay hazaña personal acá: hay la inteligencia de dejar entrar a los que saben. En lo concreto: delegá de verdad, pagá bien, escuchá al que te contradice, dejá que otros firmen partes del trabajo. La bendición y la fama del texto son consecuencia de eso y no de tu esfuerzo individual. Es la abundancia bien administrada.

   The fifth is the line of the ruler who knows how to surround himself. Lines arrive means people with talent and counsel arrive, and he listens to them. There is no personal feat here: there is the intelligence of letting in those who know. Concretely: delegate for real, pay well, listen to the one who contradicts you, let others sign parts of the work. The blessing and renown in the text follow from that, not from your individual effort. This is abundance well administered.

   La imagen final es escalofriante y muy actual: alguien tiene todo y se encierra a cuidarlo. Sube el muro, desconfía, corta vínculos, y al cabo de tres años mira por la puerta y no hay nadie. La abundancia se volvió un búnker. Si te salió la sexta, la pregunta no es cómo proteger lo que tenés sino a quién dejaste afuera. Abrí la casa antes de que el aislamiento se vuelva costumbre: lo que se guarda sin compartir termina cuidando a nadie.

   The final image is chilling and very contemporary: someone has everything and locks themselves in to guard it. The wall goes up, trust goes down, ties are cut, and after three years he looks through the gate and nobody is there. The abundance became a bunker. If you drew the sixth line, the question is not how to protect what you have but who you shut out. Open the house before the isolation becomes a habit: what is hoarded without sharing ends up guarding nobody.
