El dictamen. La liberación. Es propicio el sudoeste. Si ya no queda nada adonde ir, volver trae fortuna. Si todavía queda algo por hacer, hacerlo pronto trae fortuna.

La imagen. El trueno y la lluvia que se desatan: la imagen de la liberación. Así el noble perdona los errores y absuelve las faltas.

Abajo el agua, arriba el trueno: la tormenta que por fin descarga. Todo el hexagrama es ese instante en que la presión acumulada se rompe y empieza a llover. En el orden del libro viene justo después del impedimento: primero el desfiladero cerrado, después el aire que se abre.

El Dictamen es sorprendentemente práctico. Dice dos cosas según el caso. Si el asunto ya terminó, volver a lo simple, a la vida normal, sin quedarse dando vueltas en el terreno de la crisis. Y si todavía quedó algo pendiente, resolverlo rápido, antes de que la calma nueva lo vuelva a enterrar. Lo que el clásico no permite es la zona intermedia: la crisis resuelta a medias que se convierte en costumbre.

La Imagen es de las más generosas del I Ching. Después de la tormenta, el noble perdona los errores y absuelve las faltas. No porque no hayan sucedido, sino porque prolongar el juicio prolonga la tensión que acaba de descargarse. Igual que la lluvia limpia el aire, el perdón limpia el vínculo. Sin eso, la liberación es apenas una pausa.

The Judgment. Deliverance. The southwest furthers. If there is nowhere left to go, returning brings good fortune. If something still remains to be done, doing it soon brings good fortune.

The Image. Thunder and rain breaking loose: the image of Deliverance. Thus the noble pardons mistakes and forgives offences.

Water below, thunder above: the storm finally breaking. The whole hexagram is that instant when accumulated pressure gives way and the rain starts. In the order of the book it comes right after obstruction: first the closed gorge, then the air opening.

The Judgment is surprisingly practical. It says two things depending on the case. If the matter is over, go back to the simple, to normal life, without lingering in the terrain of the crisis. And if something is still pending, settle it quickly, before the new calm buries it again. What the classic does not permit is the middle zone: the half-resolved crisis that turns into a habit.

The Image is one of the most generous in the I Ching. After the storm, the noble pardons mistakes and forgives offences. Not because they did not happen, but because prolonging the judgement prolongs the tension that has just discharged. Just as rain washes the air, forgiveness washes the bond. Without it, deliverance is barely a pause.

Sacaste el 40 y algo se destrabó. Puede ser una noticia, una conversación que finalmente pasó, un resultado que llegó, o simplemente esa sensación física de que el peso se corrió del pecho. El oráculo confirma el alivio y después hace algo poco común: te da instrucciones para el día después.

Porque el 40 no es el hexagrama del final feliz, es el de la salida de la tensión, y esa salida se puede desperdiciar. Después de una tormenta hay que hacer dos cosas: cerrar rápido lo que quedó abierto y volver a la vida normal sin quedarse viviendo en la crisis. Eso es exactamente lo que dice el Dictamen.

El error típico es quedarse en el clima de emergencia cuando la emergencia terminó. Gente que salió de una separación y la sigue contando tres años después. Equipos que resolvieron el problema y siguen reuniéndose todos los días para hablarlo. Personas que se curaron y siguen tratándose como enfermas. El segundo error es el opuesto y también aparece seguido: soltar tan rápido que quedan cabos sueltos, la conversación que faltaba, el pago pendiente, la disculpa nunca dicha, y a los meses eso vuelve.

El tercer camino que propone el 40 es el más difícil de aceptar: perdonar. La Imagen es explícita y no distingue si el otro se lo merece. Perdonar acá no es un favor moral, es higiene: mientras sigas cobrando la deuda, la tormenta sigue adentro tuyo aunque afuera esté despejado. Cerrá lo pendiente, soltá el juicio y volvé a lo simple. La línea 4 lo dice con una imagen incómoda y perfecta: liberate primero de lo que está pegado a vos.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 40 suele aparecer cuando:

• Se resolvió algo que te tenía tenso hace mucho.
• Terminó una etapa difícil y no sabés cómo volver a la vida normal.
• Quedaron cabos sueltos después de una crisis.
• Alguien te falló y estás decidiendo si soltarlo.

You drew 40 and something came unstuck. It might be a piece of news, a conversation that finally happened, a result that arrived, or simply that physical sense of the weight sliding off your chest. The oracle confirms the relief and then does something uncommon: it gives you instructions for the day after.

Because 40 is not the hexagram of the happy ending, it is the hexagram of tension leaving, and that exit can be wasted. After a storm there are two things to do: close quickly whatever stayed open, and go back to normal life instead of living inside the crisis. That is exactly what the Judgment says.

The typical mistake is staying in emergency mode once the emergency is over. People who came out of a separation and are still telling it three years later. Teams that solved the problem and still meet daily to talk about it. People who recovered and keep treating themselves as ill. The second mistake is the opposite and shows up just as often: letting go so fast that loose ends remain — the missing conversation, the unpaid amount, the apology never made — and months later it comes back.

The third way 40 proposes is the hardest to accept: forgiving. The Image is explicit and does not ask whether the other deserves it. Forgiving here is not a moral favour, it is hygiene: as long as you keep collecting the debt, the storm goes on inside you even with clear skies outside. Close what is pending, drop the judgement and return to the simple. Line 4 says it with an uncomfortable, perfect image: free yourself first from what is stuck to you.

In practice, hexagram 40 tends to come up when:

• Something that had you tense for a long time got resolved.
• A hard stretch is over and you do not know how to go back to normal life.
• Loose ends were left after a crisis.
• Someone let you down and you are deciding whether to let it go.

   La línea más corta de todo el libro, y no es un descuido. Después de la tensión, lo que corresponde es silencio: no hay nada que explicar, nada que reclamar, nada que celebrar demasiado. El clásico dice apenas dos palabras porque cualquier agregado sería empezar de nuevo. Si te salió esta línea, no hagas el balance en voz alta, no mandes el mensaje aclaratorio, no cuentes tu versión. Dejá que pase. El silencio acá es lo que consolida la salida.

   The shortest line in the whole book, and it is not an oversight. After the tension, what fits is silence: nothing to explain, nothing to claim, nothing to celebrate too loudly. The classic says only two words because any addition would be starting over. If you drew this line, do not do the reckoning out loud, do not send the clarifying message, do not tell your version. Let it pass. Silence here is what consolidates the exit.

   Los zorros son las influencias astutas que se meten entre vos y lo que querés hacer: gente que enreda, hábitos que te desvían, voces que te confunden. La línea manda sacarlas, y la flecha amarilla que se obtiene a cambio es la rectitud del medio, la línea recta. En concreto: después de una crisis se ve clarísimo quién sumaba y quién no. Aprovechá esa claridad ahora, porque en un mes la costumbre vuelve a tapar todo.

   The foxes are the cunning influences that get between you and what you want to do: people who tangle things, habits that pull you off course, voices that confuse you. The line orders them removed, and the yellow arrow won in exchange is the uprightness of the middle, the straight line. Concretely: after a crisis it is glaringly clear who was adding and who was not. Use that clarity now, because in a month habit covers everything again.

   Quien lleva la carga al hombro y sin embargo viaja en carruaje atrae a los ladrones. Insistir lleva a la humillación.One who carries a load on his back and yet rides in a carriage invites robbers. Insisting leads to humiliation.

   La imagen es la de alguien que no encaja en su lugar: tiene modos de peón y lujos de señor, o al revés. Después de una liberación aparece la tentación de mostrar el alivio como si fuera un ascenso. Contar de más, gastar de más, ocupar un lugar que todavía no te ganaste. Eso llama a los problemas. Si te salió esta línea, bajá el perfil. La salida de la crisis no es un logro para exhibir; es una oportunidad para acomodarte bien.

   The image is of someone who does not fit their place: the manners of a labourer and the luxuries of a lord, or the reverse. After a deliverance comes the temptation to display the relief as though it were a promotion. Telling too much, spending too much, occupying a place you have not earned yet. That invites trouble. If you drew this line, keep a low profile. Coming out of a crisis is not an achievement to exhibit; it is a chance to settle yourself properly.

4. LíneaLine 4 — Soltar el dedo gordoFree yourself from the big toe

   Liberarse del dedo gordo del pie: entonces llega el compañero y en él se puede confiar.Freeing yourself from your big toe: then the companion comes, and he can be trusted.

   El dedo gordo es lo que está más abajo y más pegado a vos: una compañía vieja, una lealtad automática, una costumbre que se te subió al cuerpo. La línea dice que mientras no la sueltes, la gente que de verdad te corresponde no se acerca. Es dura porque suele tratarse de alguien que estuvo cuando no había nadie. No hay que romper con violencia; hay que dejar de depender. Cuando ese lugar se libera, aparece el compañero confiable.

   The big toe is what sits lowest and closest to you: an old company, an automatic loyalty, a habit that climbed into your body. The line says that until you let it go, the people who actually belong with you do not come near. It is a hard line because it usually concerns someone who was there when nobody else was. There is no need to break anything violently; there is a need to stop depending. When that place is freed, the trustworthy companion appears.

5. LíneaLine 5 — El noble que se liberaThe noble frees himself

   Si el noble logra liberarse, hay fortuna: así les demuestra a los pequeños que va en serio.If the noble manages to free himself, there is good fortune: thus he shows the petty that he means it.

   La liberación no se anuncia, se demuestra. Esta línea describe al que sale de una situación y con eso solo cambia el comportamiento de todos los que estaban alrededor. No hubo discurso ni confrontación: hubo un hecho. En la práctica es dejar el trabajo, cortar el vínculo, mudarse, y que los demás entiendan por primera vez que hablabas en serio. Si venís avisando hace tiempo y nadie reaccionó, esta línea dice que ya no toca avisar.

   Deliverance is not announced, it is demonstrated. This line describes someone who steps out of a situation and by that alone shifts the behaviour of everyone around them. There was no speech and no confrontation: there was a fact. In practice it is leaving the job, ending the relationship, moving out, and everyone else understanding for the first time that you meant it. If you have been giving warning for a long time and nobody reacted, this line says the time for warnings is over.

   El príncipe dispara contra un halcón posado en un muro alto y lo abate. Todo resulta propicio.The prince shoots at a hawk perched on a high wall and brings it down. Everything furthers.

   La última línea es un solo tiro bien hecho. El halcón está a la vista, en alto, y el príncipe espera el momento y acierta. Es lo contrario de la agitación: preparación larga, acción corta. Si te salió esta línea, ya identificaste el obstáculo real, esa persona, esa deuda, esa conversación, y lo único que falta es el gesto único y limpio que lo resuelve. No hagas cinco intentos tibios. Preparate, elegí el momento y hacelo una sola vez.

   The last line is one well-made shot. The hawk is in plain sight, up high, and the prince waits for the moment and hits it. It is the opposite of agitation: long preparation, short action. If you drew this line, you have already identified the real obstacle — that person, that debt, that conversation — and all that is missing is the single clean gesture that settles it. Do not make five lukewarm attempts. Prepare, pick the moment and do it once.
