La imagen. El cielo arriba y el lago abajo: la imagen del porte. Así el noble distingue lo alto de lo bajo y con eso afirma el ánimo del pueblo.

Arriba el Cielo, el padre, la fuerza pura; abajo el Lago, la hija menor, la alegría y la apertura. Son los dos extremos de la familia de trigramas: nadie está más lejos en rango. El hexagrama muestra a la más chica caminando justo detrás del más fuerte, y por eso el clásico habla de pisarle la cola al tigre.

El carácter 履 significa a la vez zapato, pisada y conducta ritual. En la corte antigua, el ritual no era decoración: era el sistema que permitía que gente con poderes muy distintos conviviera sin destruirse. Saber dónde pararse, cómo saludar, cuándo hablar y cuándo callar era literalmente una técnica de supervivencia.

Por eso el tigre no muerde. No porque el peligro no exista, sino porque el que camina lo hace con la actitud justa: alegre pero no confianzudo, cerca pero no encima. La Imagen prescribe distinguir lo alto de lo bajo porque el conflicto no nace de la diferencia de poder, nace de la confusión sobre quién es quién. Cuando cada uno sabe su lugar, el pueblo se tranquiliza.

The Judgment. Treading. You step on the tail of the tiger and the tiger does not bite. Success.

The Image. Heaven above and the lake below: the image of Treading. Thus the noble distinguishes high from low and thereby steadies the minds of the people.

Above, Heaven, the father, pure strength; below, the Lake, the youngest daughter, joy and openness. They are the two extremes of the trigram family: no two ranks stand further apart. The hexagram shows the smallest walking right behind the strongest, and that is why the classic speaks of stepping on the tail of the tiger.

The character 履 means shoe, footstep and ritual conduct all at once. In the ancient court, ritual was not decoration: it was the system that let people of very unequal power live together without destroying each other. Knowing where to stand, how to greet, when to speak and when to keep quiet was literally a survival technique.

That is why the tiger does not bite. Not because the danger is unreal, but because the one who walks does it with the right bearing: cheerful but not familiar, close but not on top. The Image prescribes distinguishing high from low because conflict is not born of the difference in power, it is born of confusion about who is who. When each one knows their place, the people settle.

Sacaste el 10 y estás tratando con algo mucho más fuerte que vos. Un jefe, una institución, un banco, un juicio, una familia política, un ex que todavía maneja algo tuyo. La buena noticia del hexagrama es contundente: el tigre no muerde. Se puede pasar. La condición es una sola y no es la fuerza: es la conducta.

El oráculo te está diciendo que en este momento tu manera de hacer las cosas pesa más que tus argumentos. El tono del mail, la puntualidad, el no levantar la voz, el no prometer de más, el no hacerte el gracioso en el momento equivocado. Nada de eso es sumisión. Es precisión.

En lo concreto: pedís el aumento con datos y sin amenaza velada. Contestás la carta documento en término y en el registro correcto. Vas a la cena familiar sin entrar en la discusión de siempre. Le decís al cliente grande que no llegás con la fecha, antes de no llegar. El 10 aparece mucho cuando alguien está a punto de pelear una batalla que puede ganar en la forma y perder en el fondo por gritar.

Y hay un detalle que el hexagrama subraya: el tigre no está enojado con vos. Casi nunca hay maldad del otro lado, hay poder distraído. Por eso el modo importa tanto: lo que decide si te muerden es si le diste un motivo.

El error típico tiene dos caras. Una es la de la línea 3: sobreestimarte, creer que ves y caminás bien cuando no, y provocar al tigre de frente. La otra es desaparecer, tragarte todo, aceptar cualquier cosa con tal de no rozar el peligro; eso no es porte, es miedo, y el hexagrama no lo premia. El tercer camino es caminar cerca del poder con cortesía y con claridad sobre el propio lugar: ni desafiarlo ni arrodillarse, sino avanzar con los pies bien puestos.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 10 suele aparecer cuando:

• Tenés que tratar con alguien que tiene mucho más poder que vos y no podés evitarlo.
• Entrás a un ambiente nuevo donde todavía no sabés cuáles son las reglas.
• Estás por reclamar algo justo y el modo de decirlo va a definir el resultado.
• Una relación depende menos de lo que sentís y más de cómo te comportás.

You drew 10 and you are dealing with something far stronger than you. A boss, an institution, a bank, a lawsuit, in-laws, an ex who still controls something of yours. The good news of the hexagram is blunt: the tiger does not bite. This can be walked. The condition is one thing, and it is not strength: it is conduct.

The oracle is telling you that right now the way you do things weighs more than your arguments. The tone of the email, the punctuality, not raising your voice, not over-promising, not being funny at the wrong moment. None of that is submission. It is precision.

Concretely: you ask for the raise with data and no veiled threat. You answer the legal letter on time and in the right register. You go to the family dinner without entering the usual argument. You tell the big client you will miss the date, before you miss it. Hexagram 10 shows up often when someone is about to fight a battle they could win on form and lose on substance by shouting.

And there is a detail the hexagram underlines: the tiger is not angry with you. There is almost never malice on the other side, there is distracted power. That is why manner matters so much: what decides whether you get bitten is whether you handed over a reason.

The typical mistake has two faces. One is line 3: overrating yourself, believing you see and walk well when you do not, and provoking the tiger head on. The other is disappearing, swallowing everything, accepting anything so as not to brush against danger; that is not bearing, it is fear, and the hexagram does not reward it. The third way is to walk close to power with courtesy and with clarity about your own place: neither challenging it nor kneeling, but advancing with your feet well planted.

In practice, hexagram 10 tends to come up when:

• You have to deal with someone far more powerful than you and there is no avoiding it.
• You are entering a new environment whose rules you do not know yet.
• You are about to claim something fair and the way you say it will decide the outcome.
• A relationship depends less on what you feel and more on how you behave.

   Todavía no le debés nada a nadie y eso es una ventaja enorme. Sin cargos, sin favores recibidos, sin compromisos, podés moverte liviano y decir la verdad sin costo. La línea recomienda no cambiar eso por un atajo. En lo concreto: empezás un trabajo nuevo y no te sumás a ninguna interna; entrás a un grupo y no te apurás a alinearte. La sencillez, acá, no es ingenuidad: es libertad de movimiento.

   You still owe nobody anything and that is an enormous advantage. With no titles, no favours received, no commitments, you can move light and tell the truth at no cost. The line advises not to trade that for a shortcut. Concretely: you start a new job and join none of the factions; you enter a group and do not rush to take sides. Simplicity here is not naivety: it is freedom of movement.

   Elegís el camino tranquilo, sin público y sin roce. No estás peleando por posiciones ni buscando que te vean: hacés lo tuyo y el terreno se allana. La línea le habla al que trabaja bien lejos del centro de atención y a veces sospecha que se está quedando afuera. No te estás quedando afuera; estás caminando por donde no hay tigres. Sostenelo, sobre todo cuando alguien te tiente con un atajo ruidoso.

   You choose the quiet road, with no audience and no friction. You are not fighting for position or looking to be seen: you do your work and the ground levels out. The line speaks to whoever works well far from the spotlight and sometimes suspects they are being left out. You are not being left out; you are walking where there are no tigers. Keep it up, especially when someone tempts you with a noisy shortcut.

   La única línea oscura del hexagrama y la más útil. Alguien se cree capaz de algo para lo que no está, y lo intenta igual delante de quien menos perdona. Es el que discute con el abogado del otro sin abogado, el que responde al jefe delante de todos, el que promete una entrega imposible por no decir que no. El texto agrega que así actúa el guerrero que quiere ser príncipe: coraje sin medida es solamente exposición.

   The only dark line of the hexagram and the most useful. Someone believes themselves capable of something they are not, and tries it anyway in front of the least forgiving audience. It is the person who argues with the other side lawyer without a lawyer, who answers back to the boss in front of everyone, who promises an impossible delivery rather than say no. The text adds that this is how a warrior acts who wants to be a prince: courage without measure is only exposure.

   Acá el peligro es real y vos lo sabés, y eso te salva. La línea no elogia la valentía sino el respeto: avanzás igual, pero midiendo cada paso, con el corazón en la boca y la cabeza fría. En lo concreto es la reunión que preparaste tres veces, la conversación difícil que ensayaste, el trámite en el que revisaste cada papel. El miedo bien usado no te paraliza: te vuelve preciso. Y por eso terminás bien.

   Here the danger is real and you know it, and that is what saves you. The line praises not bravery but respect: you advance anyway, measuring every step, heart in your mouth and head cool. Concretely it is the meeting you prepared three times, the hard conversation you rehearsed, the paperwork where you checked every page. Fear used well does not freeze you: it makes you precise. And that is why you end well.

Podés cortar, podés decir que no, podés poner la condición. Hacelo, pero sin olvidarte de que el terreno sigue siendo peligroso y de que quien decide también responde. Resolución con conciencia, no resolución con arrogancia.

   The moment to decide has come and you have to stand behind the decision. The line sits in the ruling place, so the risk is no longer being bitten: it is that firmness turns into arrogance. You can cut things off, you can say no, you can set the condition. Do it, but without forgetting that the ground is still dangerous and that whoever decides also answers for it. Resolve with awareness, not resolve with swagger.

Si la conducta fue pareja de principio a fin, el resultado se sostiene solo. Si hubo un tramo torcido, todavía estás a tiempo de corregirlo antes de empezar lo siguiente. En lo concreto: cerrá el proyecto con una revisión honesta, agradecé a quien te bancó, pagá lo que quedó pendiente.

   The stretch is over and the line asks you to do what almost nobody does: look back and judge how you walked, not how much you achieved. If the conduct held even from start to finish, the result sustains itself. If there was a crooked stretch, you are still in time to correct it before the next thing begins. Concretely: close the project with an honest review, thank whoever backed you, settle what is still owed.
